Third Plenary
China’s Philanthropy: 'Will a new paradigm for philanthropy emerge?'

Chinese philanthropy has witnessed unprecedented growth in recent years. The path along which it has evolved looks starkly different from the experiences of philanthropy sectors elsewhere. While lessons from other regions can help China to continue growing the sector, such solutions must be specific to China’s unique cultural, economic and regulatory context. The balance struck between these will determine how Chinese philanthropy will differ from existing models.

This session will explore the unique characteristics of Chinese philanthropy, and how these will define the challenges and opportunities the sector will likely face in future. This will include a reflection on what best practices can be taken from other regions’ philanthropy journeys, and what challenges will require China to carve out its own path to solve.
