About the Forum

Convened by The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, the Philanthropy for Better Cities Forum is the first philanthropy forum of its kind in the region focusing on metropolitan social issues. It will provide a platform for over 1,000 participants in the field of philanthropy, thought leaders and NGOs from around the world, especially in the Asia Pacific and Greater China region, to exchange views, facilitate cross-sector collaborations and cultivate long-term partnership and engagement, all in the hope of creating better cities.

The Forum will kick off the week-long International Philanthropy and Social Enterprise Week 2016 from 21st – 27th September, 2016. The two events during the week are the Social Enterprise Summit and the Social Enterprise World Forum.

The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust

Founded in 1884, The Hong Kong Jockey Club is a world -class horse racing operator, one of the world's largest charity donors and Hong Kong's largest community benefactor, as well as one of Asia's most prestigious membership clubs. Operating as a not-for-profit organisation, the Club allocates its surplus funds for charitable and community projects.

Working with Government, non-governmental organizations and community partners, the Trust is committed to improving the quality of life of the people of Hong Kong, as well as to providing immediate relief to those most in need. A dynamic and transformative philanthropic organisation in its own right, the Trust also proactively seeks out the root causes of social issues and brings multiple and cross-sectoral parties together to tackle issues which transcend disciplines and skills. While the Trust continues to fund a wide range of projects, it is placing special emphasis on three areas of strategic focus:

Youth – Empowering youth for a hopeful future.
Elderly – Helping build an age-friendly Hong Kong.
Sports – Promoting active participation and sportsman-ship. Making sports fun and accessible to all.
